Southern Cross Catholic Vocational College Burwood (SCCVC) has been visited by the Hon Steven Joyce as part of an ongoing government review into the Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) system.
SCCVC has previously been called a “gold standard” facility by the NSW Premier, and is a two-time Australian Training Award winner.
Along with his team, Mr Joyce is currently in the process of writing a review which will make recommendations about the future of VET training, due to be presented to the government in March.
Mr Joyce toured the school’s learning spaces and spoke with Principal Patrick O’Reilly and key Sydney Catholic Schools staff about the college’s programs, resourcing and teachers.
“I’m impressed with the range of disciplines that the school’s working in ” – Steven Joyce
“One of the things that the review’s really interested in is attracting young people into vocational education and training, and applied education pathways,” said Mr Joyce.
“I’m impressed with the range of disciplines that the school’s working in, but also impressed with the linkages to the post-school VET system – I think that’s really important.”
Mr Joyce said the team was looking at a range of different models for delivering VET education.
